Allocation and system expansion

In openLCA there are three allocation methods:

• physical allocation
• economic allocation
• causal allocation

Every process has an “Allocation” tab where the allocation factors for all three cases can be viewed or altered. When calculating the LCI and LCIA results the preferred allocation method can be selected in the calculation settings. Using a project it is also possible to compare the results obtained depending on which method of allocation is used for the same product system.

System expansion is possible by selecting the “Avoided product(s)” (i.e. not the reference product) in the multi-output process.
