Converter

Schedule for converter module

We have been working on the converter since November 2006.

In February 2007, Funding Consortium members (at that time, only PRé Consultants) have received the source code and a compiled, ready-to run software. With implementation progress, three follow up editions were issued since then.

Their feedback was very helpful in improving the converter, Thanks again! For example, we decided to include a batch mode based on PRé's feedback.

Albeit the ECLD format was updated in February 2007, which forced us to integrate the new format in the converter, we are still on track: Original goal was to have a beta version by end of March 2007, and we are almost there: We plan now to release the beta version by mid April 2007.

Some issues, however, remain, see the known issues section; and then there will always be the need to update and maintain the software.

We hope it is of ample use in the LCA community, both for scientists and businesses.

Update March 19, 2008: The converter is now released in two versions at our sourceforge site (cited several times on this site..); an API is available so that the conversion can be started on a web server (financed by Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe), and some say that indeed the converter has helped to solve the "format battle" - albeit we look for funding for a second stage in format conversion. Several institutes have announced their interest already; if you feel inclined to know more about this or even to support then send us a quick email, thank you.
