Import wizard
The Import wizard is used to copy data sets into openLCA. To open the import wizard, select the Import entry in the application menu.
In the import wizard, the supported import formats are categorized by their respective data format name. Select the type of data you want to import and click „Next”; the wizard then asks you about the location of the data and other import options.

Importing EcoSpold files
For importing EcoSpold files, go to the import wizard and select the EcoSpold data format. Choose the location of the data you want to import, mark it, and click on „Next”.
You will then be asked in which categories processes should be put in the openLCA database. Creating a new category is helpful in order to keep several imports separate.
The import wizard compares all units in the data you want to import with the units in openLCA, and may propose conversion factors if different units are found. If the database contains a unit that that is not recognised by openLCA, select a flow property and enter a conversion factor for the new unit. Then click on „Finish”.
For importing ecoinvent files, you should first import processes (unit processes, and/or multi-output processes, and/or system processes) and then import the LCIA methods.
Importing openLCA Version 1.0 databases
For importing databases of openLCA 1.0 (the version released September 2008) into openLCA 1.1, steps are as follows.
First, locate your old database. The database is in a folder that has the same name as the database (so openlca for your new database). For any openLCA application, there is a directory ?workspace?, and below a directory database and data:
In this data folder are the different databases.
Select ‚openLCA’ and then either a local or a network database in the import wizard (see screenshot above, for EcoSpold), and specify where the database is located:
You can also select an upper level directory, and will then get the different databases available in subfolders. Select one to import, specify the user and password needed for the database, and press ‚Finish’.
